It was decided to forward the following communication to Mr. J. A. Frostick, preeident of the New Zealand Boot Manufacturers' Federation:—"At our annual congress held in Christchurch, the following resolution was carried unanimously:—'ln consequence of tho enormous quantity of boots and shoes imported into this Dominion, resulting'in intermittent employment to the boot trade workers,-a conference with the New Zealand boot manufacturers bo arranged to evolve, if possible, a solution of the difficulty. , " Replying to the resolution, Mr. Frostick stated that 'Jie viewed the present position of the b'oot manufacturing trade with concern, and was gratified that the union was seeking for a remedy; as he considered that casual intermittent employment was'"the greatest blot on our industrial-system." In a further reply just received, Mr. Frostick states that tho employers will be pleased to meet the union representatives. ■ ■' '

Tho union delegates will meet at the Trades Hall at .10 o'clock this morningj- and the manufacturers' representatives will assemble at the same time at the rooms of tho Employers' Association. In tho afternoon loth sides will confer with a view to finding a solution of: the lack of uniformity of employment, and to discuss tho position of the industry, generally. ■•■.■• The following' union delegates were in. Wellington yesterday:—Messrs. G. 11. Whiting (secretary) and W. Williams (both of Christchurch), S. C. Brown (Dunediu), J. Hutchison (Wellington), and C. P. Barnes (Auckland).

Manufacturers' representatives who are expected to attend tho conference are: —Messrs. J. A. Frostick (president, Christihurch), Coles and Deareloy (Auckland), Pallett, M'Kinley, and Neil (Dunedin), Mapplebcck (secretary, Wellington)..
