_ 4. - THEFT OF MONEY & HANDBAG. Mr. W. G.Riddell, S.M., presided over, a short sitting of tho Magistrate's Court on Saturday morning. Daniel O'Keefo pleaded guilty to tho theft of £7 inmonoy and a lady's handbag, the property of Fanny Whittaker. The theft was-committed at night time from Mrs. AVhittaker's secondhand shop in Manners Street. The son of the proprietor had found accused on tho promjsos and had turned 1 him out, not knowing at the time that the money and bag had been stolen. Later the theft was discovered, but by tho time that accused was arrested'the money had been epent. A sentence of one month's imprisonment was imposed. . CHARGE OF STEALING LIQUOR. A young man of 21 years, named Arthur Harold.Anderson, appeared to answer a charge of breaking and entering tho shop of Edwin Thomas Taylor on Thursday last and stealing therefrom bottles of beer and one case of whisky, of a total value of £2 19s. 6d. Accused was remanded till Wednesday, hail being allowed in £50, with ono surety of £50 and Iwo of £25. CONSTABLE STRUCK. , For assaulting Constable T. Hunter whilo in the execution of his duty, Edward Logan waa fined 405., with the alternative of seven cfeys' imprisonment. Accused had struck the constable when he had been asked by him whether he was ill-using a little child. The occurrence took place in a hotel bar. OTHER CASES. . ■ Michael John Glanin, charged with being found in a etate of helpless drunkenness on the Main Road at Upper Hutt, was convicted and discharged. Elizabeth Buckmaster, charged with drunkenness and with being; an idle and disorderly person, was remanded till April 18 for curative treatment. . Three first offenders who failed to appear were fined 10s., and another convicted and discharged.
