In connection with the shipping trade between' Onehungo. and Waitara, it was stated in the report of the Waitara Chamber of Commerce that representations had been made to the chamber that a weekly service with Onehunga would' bo' of' great value to the district, especially so from the fact that a good deal of trade -would be done with other towns along the> coast ; which at present goes to New Plymouth owing to the more frequent service to that place. ■ ■ Continuing, the report stated:—"There is reason to believe that there will he a'big trade in the Kawhia district in the near future if ..the weekly service can. be .put. on between that place and Waitara. Pyjramue' left Wellington for Oamaru at 9.5 a.m. on Thursday. Advice from New York states that the chartered eteamer Franklytt is to leave there for Australian and New Zcnlnnd Sorts to-morrow. She is coming down- on. ehalf of the A. and A. Line. Tho Mapoul'ika is scheduled to leave Wellington for Nelson direct at 10 p.m. to-day. She will return here, via Picton, early on Tuesday morning, and will eail again for Picton and Nelson at 5 p.m. the same day. It Has been decidefl to convert tho milknown ficow Eunice into an auxiliary vessel. Sho will have her engines installed in Auckland. A bottle has been picked up at Saido Point, Queensland, containing the following message:—"Thrown overboard November 27. 1909, in latitude 43 degreee S., longitude 95 degrees W., or 300 milos off tho west coast of South America, in direct lino with Australia, 6COO miles."
