—.—9 ■ NEW MEASURE IN SOUTH AFRICAN ASSEMBLY PROVISION MADE FOR DEPORTATIONS By Teleßrjpli—Pross Association—OopyrisM Cape Town, April 7. The new Industrial Disputes Bill introduced in tlio Union Assembly follows the lines of the abandoned measure. It omits special provisions- for the preservation of public safety in times of emergency, and provides for deportation for high treason, sedition, and violence, and for incitement thereto. BRITISH LABOUR AND THE DEPORTATIONS. AGITATION FOR REPEAL OF THE BANISHMENT ORDER. London, April 7. ' The joint Labour Conference has determined to send a deputation to the Premier and the Colonial Secretary to urgo the repeal of the order ; of banishment on. tho Reported South African Labour loaders. _ The conference also appointed Mr. Ramsay Mac Donald,. M.P., and Mr. Seddon to personally memorialise' General .Botha. A resolution was carried to establish a doporteds' defence fund. A delegate announced that writs had been issued against the owners of the steamer Umgeni, which brought the deported men from South Africa to England. (Rec. April 8, 10.30 p.m.) London, April 8. At the Labour Conference, Mr. Seddon, proposing o resolution, declared that the attempt in South Africa io put down trade unionism was only the forerunner of a similar movement in Great Britain. ....■, Mr. J. Ramsay Mac Donald said! that the Labour Party would not agree to the .view of tho self-governing Dominion which said that once a colony was a Dominion it had a right to uso its power to interfere with the principles of British citizenship. He considered that the Home _ Government was the source of Imperial power. They must have a right to express their views, whether with regard to South. Africa or Australia. . 'The Indemnity Act, he continued, was a monstroils piece of iniquitous legislation, against which they ought to protest, not merely as representatives of Labour, but as men responsible for the liberties of tho Empire. Mr. Ramsay Mac Donald and Mr. Seddon will sail for South Africa shortly.
