THE LATE MR. W. MURDOCH
FUNERAL OBSEQUIES. The remains of the late Mr.
Walter Murdoch, Second Assistant City Engineer, wore- interred in the Karori Cemetery yesterday. There was a largo and representative gathering of mourners, and the cortege, which left deceased's late residence, in Brougham Street, shortly before 10 o'clock, was'a lengthy one, and included upwards of thirty vehicles. Amoug those present were the Mayor (Mr. J. P. Luke), Councillors G. Frost, J. Godber, A. H. Hindmarsh, T. C. A Hislop, M. M. F. Luckie, L.M'Kenzie, W. J. Thompson, and It. A. Wright, the City Engineer (Mr. W. H. Morton), the Assistant City Engineer (Mr. J. M. Morice), the- City Electrical Engineer (Mr. Stuart Richardson), the Tramway Traffic Superintendent (Mr. M. Cable), the' Town Clerk (Mr. J. R. Palmer), the Assistant Town Clerk (Mr. R. Tait), the. City Solicitor (Mr. J. O'Shea), .. tho Superintendent of Reserves (Mr. G. F. Glen), tho Superintendent of the Fire Brigade (Mr. H. Tait),,and many other corporation officers, and friends and relatives of the deceased outside municipal circles. Tho burial service was performed by the Rev. J. Dumbell, the veteran Methodist minister, who has been, a close friend of tho Murdoch family for tho past fifty years. Assisting him was tho Rev. A. C W. Standago, M.A., of the Kelburne Presbyterian Church, to which tho late Mr. Murdoch had belonged.
The following resolution of'regret and sympathy has been passed by the Wellington Municipal Officers' Association; "That the executive expresses tho deep regret of the association at tho untimely death of Mr. Walter Murdoch, a , valued officer, known and respected by all members of tho staff,' as a man of sterling Qualities—a worker in the best sense of the word; and also desires to express to Mrs. Murdoch its deepest sympathy with her in her sad bereavement, and trusts that she will take comfort in the knowledge that ' ho is now truly at rest."
It is announced that Messre. J. A. lied path and Sons, wholesale coal merchants and importers, , of Christchurch, have been appointed Commissioners for Trade in Now Zealand for the Port of Hull. Tho appointment is tho outcome of tho visit to the Dominion at the en dof 1912 of Mr. Austin Wilson, tho Special Trado Commissioner of the port, whoso object was to bring before exporters the facilities the port of Hull offered for handling aud. marketing New Zealand groduce.
