' The week's work is to consist ct 48 hows. All competent journeymen, bddyma,kers, carmakers, wheelwrights, car-Workers, smiths, trimmers. motorcar, motor-carriage, or motor-wagon builders shall receive a miniiiinm wage, of Is. 4£d. per hour. One leading hand in each' establishment" where four . or more workers are employed shall,' !U addition to the?, wages proscribed, recive Is. per day extra. All time worked in excess of eight and three-quarter irmirs-iiv any one day on five days of ■ the week end in osfcoss of four alia a quarter hours on tto day. of tlie statutory half-holiday shall be paid for as follows':-— I Time and a quarter for tho first three hours and time and a half afterwards.' Apprentices shall be paid: First year, 108.; second year, 155.; third year, 305.; fourth year, 275. 6d.; and fifth year, 355. per week. Helpers' wages are fixed as follow: —Fifteen to sixteen years, 10s.; sixteen years, 155.; seventeen years, £1; eighteen years, £1 55.; nineteen years, £1 10s.; twenty years; £1 las. per week; over twenty years. Is. per hour, Piece work shall not be allowed except in the trimming department. The preferen.es clause provides that— (a) An employer shall bo at liberty to employ any parson offering liijuself_ for employment, whether such .person is a member of-the union or net; (b) in the event of any person being hereafter engaged by-any'employer whs is not a member of tho-timon. such person shall, within fourteen days . after being refiuested in writinc: by the secretary of the union, join iiio union, and should such person not comply with the request within such period he' shall be deemed to have committed a breach ot tho award; <c) a.n employer shall not ho liable-, under any circumstances, .for any breach of the preference award; (d) the i provisions, of tho clause shall operate ■ if and only so long as tlie rules of tho union shall permit any person of good character and sober habits coming with-. in tho scope of the award to become a member of the luiioii u.pn payment of an entranco fee not csc&ditig 55., upon a written application, and to continue a-member upon payment of subsequent -contributions not exceeding sixpejiee per week. » The City Couiicil is exempted' from the provisions, provided that it pays not less than tile minimum rate of wages fixed by the award for any work cowing within its scope. In a 'memorandum attached to tho award, the Court- states that the elauso relating to overtime lias had to he recast owing t-6 the- fact that the clause, relating to the. hours of work {which was agreed to by tlie parties) did not specify the hours for starting wcrk. Tho work which helpers were not allowed to do was the' same as. specified in other industrial awards. A clause _ prohibiting a worker working full timo from working for another employer has been strwek out, as there is no jurisdiction to insert such a. provision,
