SEARCH FOR THE SOUTHERN CROSS. CREW OF 170 ©N BOARD. By Telegraph—Presa Copyright St. John's (Newfoundland, April 3. Efforts to locate the Southern Cross, the sealing vessel which was reported to have been crushed in the icq off Capo Race, have been fruitless. _ There is grave, apprehension that she is lost. . She has a crew of 170 aboard. Tho search is being continued. (Rec. April 5, 5.5 p.m.) St. John (Newfoundland), April 4, King George lias- sent a. message of sympathy to the bereaved relatives. The sealing ship' Southern Cross lias not been found. Additional seaich steamers aro starting. A steamer previously reported that a sealing vessel had been crushed by ice and sank off Cape Race,' and that the crew took refuge on ice floes after the vessel sank, the scaling steamer Bella Ventura rescuing thirty badly frost-bitten survivors. Forty d«id were found, and thirty were missing, for whom search is being made.
