Tho women broke down tho barrier and engaged in a hand-to-hand conflict with the councillors, attempting to use the chairs as weapons. Some flourished life-preservers. The police wero called, but refused to enter on the ground that thoy wero in insufficient strength.' The majority of the councillors.then returned to the Chamber, and tho disturbance was quelled, but business was impossible. ' . ■
