A CWi, SM-, presided over yesterday's sitting of the Magistrate's Court.For. stealing a sum of 8d , from the person of James Backhouse, Thomas Elliott, an old oiTendei aged 62 y* ars . was sent to gaol for seven da)s The ■evidence was to the effect that, during a conversation between complainant and defendant, the latter snatched the money out of Backhouse's liaiid. Jack Galbraith was sentenced to one mohth's imprisonment for a breach of a maintenance order, tiie warrant to lie suspended so long ns defendant pa\s 16s. per week towards reducing the arrears. Francis Joseph Roberts,, who tvtrs similarly charged, \vas also sentenced to one month's impris.oni»i;nt,. the warrant to be suspended so long as lie pa.ys £1 per week.
A young man named Giarlei Tucker came up for sentence on a char> r o of havinc; exploded gelignite in tli<> Karon stream for the purpose of tikmc; fish After warning the accused of the lnttire of the offence, the Majjistiate fined him £2, and ordered hfm io pay costs amountiiiK to £2 14s.
Charles Dunn was criftvicted and derad to pav Court costs, 7s. on a charge of riding a motor evele uithout carryine; areeistration mark.
For insobriety Maigaret Williams and Thomas Sheehan were eieh finp-d £1 and Annie Peet, Roderick J[aH«Psoii, Michael Greanev, and; Hsn.v Spe;j(er were each fined Ids. Five fi<-»t offenderssimilarly charged were leiiiDntl.y dealt with.
Louise Aubern and Erojfteii were each fined £1 fop breaches of th'elf prohibition orders.
