CITY MAYORALTY.
MR. LUKE TO SEEK RE-ELECTION. Mr. J. P. Luke has decided to stand for reflection to the Wellington Mayoralty. His' decision was announced in tho following -letter, forwarded by him to • Mr. G. Shirtcliffe, chairman of tho representative committoo of citizens which waited upon Mr. Luke and asked him to consent to his being again nominated for tho Mayoralty:— • ■ ■■'■■. "Pleaso accept and convey to . the other members of the deputation my heartiest thanks for the appreciative remarks with reference to my work as Mayor of tho City during the current year, I feel that.Thavo not merited the good,,things said, and the genuineness, of your- not stating,, my shortcomings has laid me under a .deeper sense of obligation to you all. After consideration of your request, that I should seek ro-election as Mayor, at the forthcoming election, and- believing that alargo number of citizens join with you in that hope; I' have the honour to intimate to you that I have pleasure in complying with your request." • The other candidates in the field are Mr. D. M'Laren (Labour) and Mr. H. Holland (Social-Democrat).
