MIRAMAR TRAMS
RESULT OF THE CONFERENCE. The Tramway Board reported to the Wellington City Council last night on the conference hold on March 12 respecting proposals of altered conditions of tram transit Avithin the Borough of Miramar. The report ran: ' "The following proposals were considered:— ' ■ "(1) To give effect to the proposals previously made that the Miramar Borough supply power for all cars running on the borough lines, tho present charge of Is. per car mile made by the city to be reduced to lOd. : TM3 was agreed to. It was decided to recommend the Tramways' Committee to give effect to the proposal immediately, under the conditions set out in the board's report to the Tramways Committee, and that the agreement with the Miramar Borough Council be amended in accordance with' such conditions. "(2) Proposed leasing of Miramar Borough hues: It was found impossible to agree upon-any sum which should bo paid by the Miramir Borough Council to the city in tho event-of the city leasing tho borough lines. It was'finally agreed ,that the city should take over the lines for twelve months, and that the borough pay to tho city .4Gd. per car mile run during this period. This arrangement will permit of a satisfactory estimato of receipts by the city under altered management.' "In the event of the present ticket system being dispensed with, a tally will be_ taken during at least one week in each' quarter of tho twelve monthly period for the purpose of obtaining a ■reliable estimato _of traffic receipts. ■ ; "Existing conditions regarding maintenance and renewals to be observed during this twelve-monthly neriod. "It is proposed under the new arrangement to cancol double fares on Saturdays and Sundays, and to issue concession tickets toScatoun and Miramar residents entitling holders to ride twelve times over 5 sections for 3s. 3d., or at the rate of 33t1. per journey, and 4-section tickets available between both termini and Place, at city rates, viz.: Fourteen lides for 35., or .approximately 2.6 d. par single journey." The council adopted/the report.
