O'Leary, pleaded guilty to a charge Michael Greaney. It was slated in . evidence that "Winter Was.a ; porter at. the- City , Buffet Hotel,-and Greaney, refused to leave when-requested to do so. Greaney used certain language.to the.porter and ■the-'latter, thereupon struck}him in the 'face!''"The- Magistrate imposed a fine of 2'os;' . For refusing to quit licensed premises when ..requested to do so, Patrick Nicholas was fined 20s. For using objectionable language he was fined a similar, amount.' David Bromley pleaded guilty to ' charges of insobriety and resisting a constable whilst in the execution of his duty. He was convicted and discharged on tho first charge, but was fined 40s. on the second. ' ' For insobriety Mary Johnston' was fined 10s., and, for a similar offence, Michael Greaney was fined a like amount. Mary: Smith was fined 40s. for importuning.. ' CIVIL BUSINESS., LANDLADY CLAIMS SHOP EENT. Ruth Reid sued A. Asher, furniture dealer, for £52, representing four months' rent up to December 1 last,' of a shop in Vivian Street;-at'.the rato of £13 per month. Tho case iwas heard by Mr. D. G. A. Cooper, S.M. Mr.. . P. B. Cooke appeared for the plaintiff and Mr.- E. M. Sladden represented the defendant. The'defendant paid £44 10s. into Courtr.and disputed.'the remainder. The defence.was.that Asher had'had - n fire in the .shop.Yand as the' building was .practically useless during : the poriod.of renovation,.Mrs. Reid had . agreed to accept half rent for-a certain ■period. Charles Thorns, farmer, of Nai Nai, Lower Hutt, claimed from Annie Kerr, of .White's Lane, Lower HutJ, the sum of £68 155., as an amount loaiied during tho months of September and October, 1903. Mr. F. E. Ward appeared for the plaintiff and Mr. P. H. Putnam represented the defendant. _ Defendant was the daughter of plaintiff, and in her evidence she. stated that the money alleged to havo been . loaned was rostlly a gift. After hearing further evidence His Worship (Mr. W. G. Riddell, S.M.) nonsuited plaintiff. No costs were allowed on either side. . : LAND AGENT & SETTLER. Further hearing was taken in a,case wherein John Henry Hooper, land agent, of Wellington, claimed from David Morris Owens, settler, of Wellington, the sum. of £150 under tho terms of an agreement alleged to exist between defendant and himself, and £50 ns damages for an alleged breach of tho agreement by defendant by whichplaintiff lost an opportunity of recovering tho sum'of £o0 as commission. Mr. W. G. Riddell, S.M., was on tho bench. Mr. W. H. D. Bell apneared for plaintiff, and Mr. A. Dunn for defendant. After hearing argument His Worship reserved decision. DEFAULT- JUDGMENTS.
