Sir John Murray, Who was a member of the Challenger expedition in 1872, was killed whilst motoring'near Granton. His daughter Rhoda- was seriously injured. , Sir John Murray wa3 born in Cofcurg, Ontario, in 1811. He was a well-known naturalist, and was at one time scientific member of the Fishery Board for Scotland. He was awarded- medals from many geographical societies, and was an honorary .member of a large riumberof British and foreign; scientific societies. He was one of the naturalists on H.M.S. Challenger during explorations of physical and biological conditions of great basins..- Lnter he took part .in the Triton nml Knight Errant explorations in Patloo Channel -and other deep-sea and marine expeditions. He also made numerous explorations in tropical oceanic islands, and took part in'and paid the expenses of the Michael. Sars North Atlantic expedition hi 1910.
