Following upon the destruction by lire of the Ifuited States Customs Office and Post Office at Tocatc, in California, the United States authorities have declared martial law in tho neighbourhood. The outrages aro alleged to have been committed oy Mexicans. American troops tire now patrolling the. frontier. The Governor of California is likely to demand that the Mexicans concerned should ibe given up to justice. There is much ill-feeling between the Americans and Mexicans in tho neighbourhood.
