Ihdse unskilled labourers in Auckland who- are on' the unemployed list seeni to have no great number of opportuni-ties-for securing relief on public works at the present moment. A few days ago the Mayor telegraphed to the rrimo 'Minister, asking if work could bo provided■• on tho railway works in the neighbourhood of Auckland for some or the ' unemployed of the city, and received a reply indicating that work might be 'found for a proportion of tlloin.- • Inquiry yesterday showed that so far no relief' has been , accorded by •*°° Railway Department in this 'district. ihe Labour Department states that the unskilled labour market in Auckland is unsatisfactory, as far as placing men in is concorned. Callers'seeking work have been numerous, most of them being single men, who are disinclined to leave the city, preferring to remain m the jiopo that some suitable employ, ment will turn up, but there is no work ■ofronng. ..•■■•■-.. :
