BRUTAL ASSAULT

On Friday evening''sin, Arbitrationist watersidoi named Nicolas Saunders, \vW had had a. strenuous argument witli a' F.ederationist watersider, was suddenly attacked from behind in a sido street, knocked down by a blow from nn iron bar, and brutally kicked. His assailant escaped 'by dodging through the Vailway yard. To-day, acting on information received, : two detectives proceeded to a lonely bay on. Rangitoto Island in Hauraki/.-yulf, ■ and there arrested Alfred Madigan, oh a charge of assault. Madigan was discovered lying in tho bottom of a boat, and was much surprised by tho appearance of detectives.
