It was alleged that the assauit took place on September 12- at No. 17 Haining Street. This house is occupied j by Charles. Ah Chong.'a Chinese te«n* drymaii. In the course of his evidence Ah '. Cliong stated that Fioi-cnce Jano Curtice liad been li/inj.; with him for about 18 months. On the day of the occurrence tho defendant, Edward James Curtice, entered his shop- with a _ parcel of wearing apparel, whieffl ho desired to have waslied. Tho wair.au came- a>tt, arid defendant thereupon took: hold « her and threatened to shoot her.. Curtice, in fact, presented a revolver ether, and afterwards weft-t owt into, the passage, wliere he fired a'siiot. Witness had subsequently found the ballet embedded in the door. He (witness) had not previously known that, the woman who resided with liitti was defendant's wife. Detocti\ e-Sergoant Casseils stated tliat when he arrested Curtice the latter said that at the lime of'the shooting he had not been aware that the revolver was loaded. Hugh M'Donald wrts sent, to gaol for two months on a charge Of stealing a £10 note, the property of Hurry Ueorge Riickstraw. Evidence was given to the effect tl«t complainant and defendant boarded at the same house, but hud separate roouis. One evening Racksttaw v/efit to bed in mi iutuxieatcd ccnditioai. He then bad two £10 notes and 17s. in sliver in his possession, but on tho following morning one of the notes was missing, and iduring the day defendant ftisM a £10 ,iote. When arrested accused had stated that he had picked u# a £H) note on the floor of the hftuse.
FURTHER POLICE CASES. ' John M'Nelies, who was- represented by' Mr.' P. W. Jackson, was charged with stealing a hag of coat, valued at--25.; the property of the Wellington Ctty Council. After hearing evidence, .the Magistrate dismissed tho inf-or-malion.^ Benjamin Edo was ordered to pay .£2 7s. 6d., arrears in t'fespcet of a mam* tcnance order ,in weekly instalments of 2s. Gd., in default one month's imprisonment. Charles G'vtfotc .was ordered ■to pay £8 os., or undergo olio, month'? imprisonment.
