SALVATION ARMY CADETS
"BURNING AND SHINING LIGHTS.!' A \vclcome was extended in tho Salvation Army Citadel l'ast night to about, 25 of the 40 cadets who aro to enter into training at the- Salvation Army National Training College. Wellington. Commissioner Kicharus was present, and the Citadel was onvoded. Colonel Poivlej'i chief secretary, presided.'
Commissioner Richards, in addressiup the cadots, told them that they were called to be burning nnd shining lights. Humanity, through the Fall, had becomo chaotic; smuggling in darknesß, and oven looking for a light,. God wan tho centre of all light, and they were to bo tlio reflectors. In humanity there wcro many places of darkness, nnd tho little dark corners lind to be searched out. Tho light of God ; shining through the cadets, was to discover those- dark places, and direct tho poor souls to tho celestial heavens. (Applause ) Having directed sinners out of their darkness it was tho business of God's ecivants to elcvato and teach them. The cadets wore going to. tlio college to learn to beconio teachers, but it was necessnry that (hoy should themselves bo possessed of the- tryo spirit. The world needed to-dav a passion for Christ, and God could uso host a transparent, cleai soul, with tho light of God shining through. He exhorted them to be burning nnd shining lights. Tho < oinhination was necessary or they would bo usoloss. Away with this clamouring for fame, he said. Away with tlio pleasures of the world. The one great thing worth Hung for in this world was to save souk (Applause.)
Brigadier Gist, principal of tlio cologo, extended a hearty welcome- to tho ;ndets and to Adjutant.and Mrs. CarL«r and Adjutant M'Kay Adjutant Carter, who is to talco rharßO of tho men's wing at Ihp colItyo, said that binco liis last visit to Wellington he had boon nearly lmlf round tho world. In England ho found many turning to Socialism, hut ho had como back with tho conviction that tho religion of Jesus Christ was the only thing that uould bring relief to .niniikind. Adiittenl M'Kay, who takes charco of the women's branch, alfo delivered a short address, encouraging the cadets in their work. Cadet Noia Cliristopherßon, South Wellington, ami Cadet Clias. Thomn.s. Wanpanui, spoke on behalf of tho cadets, and during tho evening a :iuiH' bcr of musical items wore given.
