NAPIER PARK MEETING. BRONZE WINS THE CUP, (By Telegraph.—Spcoial Eejorter.i Napier, March 13. The autumn mooting of the Napier Park Racing Club commenced to-day in perfect weather. ■■ There was a largo attendance, and speculation on the totalisator was very brisk,. £16,690 being pjit through, compared with £12,451 for the corresponding day last year. The eight acceptors all lined up for the Hack Hurdle -fiace. The firat five torses on,the card were evenly supported, butHataua and Marblo Head had a slight call. The last-named soon put his bankers out of. suspense by falling at the second .fence and breaking his neck. Caher Davon and Hatana made +he running for a mile, when Composed and Okahu joined them. Composed outjumped Qatar Davouat the last feneo and won nicely. Pikiho, the third horse, came from a long way back Ruffians and St, Tiro were beaten off, and, did not jump the last fence. For a beginner; Caher Davjii u.nde a good showing. ' Berg brought off ahig surprise in the Esk Handic.ip by taking cbargo at the barrier rise and not being headed. Anguish, the runner-up, was always well placed, and in the run from the distance Le looked likely to defeat Berg.j Hima was a good third, and the others were close up.- Formulate, a veil-fancied candidate, ran disappointingly, and Montan/was ncarlv down.twice. Silver Jinrfei Jost his rider at the barrier. The Cup was a boil over for Bronze, who took charge, when the barrier rose and never let tho field in. Moiitoa Girl gave 'a. lot of bother at tho start, but tho field was £ot off- we'll. There was a lot of bnmpihg. in the race, but the winner, being -in front; ■ escaped it all. Ladoga, tho/eecond 'horse, should have won by any distance, but his rider could do nothing with him. Fair Rosamond also came from a long way back. Sea Vink wa3 tailed off in. the-early stacces, but he .was running oh at. tlie finish. Marshal M'Donald was well placed at the half-milej but he could not go tho pace over the Jast bit. Moutoa Girl was on the outside of the field the whole way. Mistio and Mj'stefiach were outchasing Bronze-, but iieithor could finish. The. Trial Hack Handicap saw Arlington put up a most extraordinary" performance. At the start Hoy and Tete-a-Tete madoitavery fast race, with Rigo Park in third place,, aiid Ringform and Arlington tailed off. The two lastnamed could not go' tho pace, and from the half-mile the pair were bard ridden with the sticks. At the bottom of the straight they had still a lot of leeway to.make up; but their riders never ■ceased persevering; Up the long straight the pair gained on tho leaders, Arlington (Olivsr) going up on the fence, and liingforati (Berry) on tho outside. Not for a second did -.the' quartet falter till well inside the dis-' tance, when Hoy fell back. Tete-a-Tete stayed on, and nursed by Bell, she jusl failed to beat Arlington. Ringforin, a hot favourite, was a head away third. Tote-a-Tete's showing was distinctly good,'and augurs welt for her future'. Hima and Kilosteri were the withdrawals from the Welter Handicap, leaving a field of nine; • . Settler and Perieler .were the public fancies,, and both riin well, hut at the finish Sir Daniel ' palloped over everything,.'and won pulling up. The winner is very well just now; and-nothing moved as well as .he did in the preliminary. ■■'■'.
Tho handicapper scored a distinct success in his weighting- of the two-year-olds,, and placed horses crossed .tthe lfiioPwith'Mirot;siii]ieilil bejhveen them; La 'FavouritaV'wh'o -finisHed : oii the. fence',';-may have ; been unlucky not to get. the yerdict. At the Start Husheen jumped back, but at the end of a furlong she'-was in front, ; 'and set a very, warm pace. Tavistock was carried a bit wido at tho turn into : the /straight, whero La Favourita ran thrbugh on ■ the rails. • ■ Over the last furloiiß the trio were lo6ked fogether, and'after a stirring finish Husheen got tho verdict. Fifty yards off the post Tavistock was "in front;, but he died in his rider's hands, and was .beaten by about a.head."" .'
The two best-supported horses in the Hack "Welter Handicap ran first and second.. These were Kimbombi and Banian., The latter rando the , : early running ■ with Tiwari and just clear of Kimbombi and Merry Jack. At tho bottom of th'o straight Kimbombi camo through between the leaders, and scored decisively.- Hiwitapu camo from, a very long way back, a,nd got third place just clear' of Merry Jack. A. Oliver was before the stewards after the race,' and was cautioned for' cribbing at the post..; • .'•'■■'■ ,■ ' '
The Flying Handicap was regarded as very open, and several of the runners had their 'chances highly assessed on the maohine. Makara and his stable mate, 'Adroit, both stripped well, particularly the latter. Blue Lako also looked vory fit, but Ventura was much above herself in condition, and was neglected on the machino. ■' Ventura,' in No. 1 position, was quickest to begin, while Alces dwelt on the mark. : Gomg down the hack Zeu3 ran up to' Ventura, and tho two carried on, tho running from Blue Lake and Makara/ The two leaders continued on, and in a keen' strugglo passed the post locked 'together. Zeus got the verdict' by a head. Bertrada was a neck behind Blue Lake. After ■ coming from a ; long way back, Day Fly'was the next to finish. . Adroit ran badly, though •in . tho preliminary nothing moved better.
