SIR lAN HAMILTON'S VISIT.

POINTS TO BE NOTED,

District special orders have bean issued by Colonel E. W..0. Chaytor, Commanding Wellington Military District, containing general instructions for the district camps to be held in April and May. Tho. instructions refer to squadron and company training, against a skeleton enemy. Units having musketry to complote in camp during the first four days are required to bring in their own targets, ammunition, and musketry appliances. Blank ammunition at tho rate- of thirty rounds per rifle, thirty per 18-pounder, and twenty per Howitzer will be reserved for the inspection of troops by General Sir lan Hamilton.

To prevent this in the future each squadron battery and company is instructed to tell off a permanent party to see that nil gates aro closed and fences repaired. Units aro not to take men on the Refeervo into camp, without authority from district headquarters. Territorials will only bo granted leavo of absence whero attendance-' would cause hardship to tho man or his employer. Whoro leave of absence is granted it will bo on tho special understanding that the man attends the casual camp. • To see that men attend, it has been decided to take the names of those in camp" within forty-eight hours of commencement, and the names of all absent without leave will be handed to; tho police for proseteution. . .. ■ i

Officers commanding units are directed to issue any instructions deemed necessary to ensuro proper supervision of Territorials', personal effects in transit. : Where kit bags are not available a uniform system of packing blankets, etc., in a piece of American cloth or other camp waterproof material should be adopted. In future cases of loss, compensation will not be recommended in--respect of any articles in excess of the necessary list laid down. The Y.M.C.A. and other-societies may erect tents and marquees for social, recreation, and other purposes, subject to conditions, but the societies must provide their own marquees.. On approval of District Headquarters, tents and a reasonable amount .of outfit will he consigned to the; camp; and representatives in charge of marquees will be issued free rations in camp, provided they are attached to xinits. . Fuel, ■straw, etc.— ; Coal, 2cwt. oven per' deim; 'wood, 21b. per man, for heating water; wood, 61b. per man when no Salamauder cooker is in use; candle's, one per tent per night; straw, 151b. per man. Forage—Oats, 61b. per, horse; chaff,, 12Ib.per..'horse; hay, 61b. per horse; "bran, 12 sacks per camp (to bo issued at ■ tho ,; discretion of'jthe veterinary-officer).- In order to permit 0.U. ; units 'to . obtain extra rations,.such as raisins, currants, fresh vegetables, etc.,',2d. per day,per man in camp will be paid the,O.C. units for fliis purpose.
