In the State Assembly, Mr. Holman (tho Now South Wales Premier), delivering his Budgot, said that the estimates of tho revenue for tho current year totalled .£18,380,000, an. increase of' £2,120,000, including £643,000 from new. taxation (already foreshadowed), to the higher freights and fares on tho' railways and tramways. The estimated expenditure was set down at £18,342,000, leaving a surplus of. £39,000. This surplus would bo obtained by abolishing the sinking funds for.a year, and not making anv' grants.to the Public Works funds. Tho increase in. the ■. 'expenditure was £853,000,' as compared with tho'.previous year, and, 'as a result, ,the deficit 0f,.£1,228,000 shown for 1912-13, was not repeated in submitting the Estimates. .- ~',., Mr. Holman hopes to be able to reintroduce the Sinking Fund r.ox year, with a view to wiping off tho deficit remaining over from' the year 1912-13. Ho forecasted that tho revenue next year would bo £20,039,000..
