Champion kept to him lap after lap, and it was soon apparent that first honours would rest beween these two. Three laps and a half after tho scratch pair had started they had overhauled Linton, and Masters was accounted for soon after three laps. Later Linton retired. Champion drow up to within a yard of Hardwick', .and th© two raced almost neck and neck over the last half of tho journey, Hardwick gaining at every turn, and Champion making up the deficiency on the straight run.
