DAY'S BAY BUSH.
THE CITIZENS', CAMPAIGN. The committee of citizens who have interested themselves in the acquisition oi the Day's Bay bush and recreationgrounds mot yesterday morning, when their numbors. were considerably increased by the addition'of, several prominent citizens, who' have , come forward to assist in the- movement'. Tho committee is now constituted ae follows:— Messrs. W. J. Organ, Mayor of Eastbourno, C. P. Skorrett, T. M. Wilford M.P., Hon.: T. W. Hislop, D. M'Laren! Councillors Button, Buddie, Frost, Fletcher, Thompson, . and Wright Messrs. T. Ballinger, W. Perry, R S Beere, E. Phelps, R. Wilson, F. P Kelly, Atkins, Baker, P. Still, Focke, A. H. Hollis, J. H. Tripe, D. N. Isaacs, E. W. Hunt.. S. S. Brown, H. Nathan, and W. H. Turnbull. , Another meeting will b? held at 27 Panama Street at o'clock this morning, and the committee estimate that they still require tlie (resistance of about fifty can- 1 , vasseis. An effort is also, being made to form a Ladies' Committee, and ladies aro welcomed at the meetings. Further meetings are to be held each evening at 5 o'clock at Turnbiill's Booms. As a result of efforts made yesterday, several donations of considerable sums were secured, but the committee are' somewhat disappointed at the result of their efforts amongst those whom it was expected would be large donors, particularly in view of the substantial amounts promised by tho Government and the Uity Council.. A number of othors who are expected to make substantial contributions liave yet to be waited on, and a systematic canvass for smaller amounts is to be organised. The various mercantile institutions, and the banks and other, associations have also been interviewed. An appeal is likewise being made to the Chineso section of tho community. The committee desires to point out that the time available before the expiration of the option is exceedingly short, and that everyone who desires to see this beautiful property reserved for the people should come forward and volunteer their assistance or give their donations. In the reference yesterday. to Mrs. Williams's handsome donation of £](100 to the fund, the fact that Mrs. Williams's most generous benefactions previously had been to the Y.M.C.A., was omitted. By an "error also it was made to appear'that Mrs. Williams had given benefactions to tho Seamen's Union. The '"union" should have been "mission."
