Frederick Gould and' his wife, in whoso premises, recently searched, wero found documents of an incriminating nature relating to the Navy, have been charged with espionage, and remanded until March. 11.
Mr. Bodkin, K.C., stated that a letter in Gould's letter-book to a correspondent, 1003, showed that his real name was Schroeder, and that ho fought in the Franco-German Wan and visited parts of Europe as a member < f the secret service of a foreign Power. Mr. Bodkin remarked that Gould had been a spy on fJreat Britain for maiiy years. Ho told -a former schoolfellow that he was an agent for the Gorman Government. Letters in his letter-book proved the payment of money and also a request for two hundred marks. '(Ike. March 6, .0.35. a.m.) ..- ' London! March 5. Mr. Bodkin stated that tho official chart at Spitlieud, drawings relating to ,tlio engine-room' arrangements on a battleship, and also a gunnery book, had been found in Gould's possession.
