' 810 CATALOGUE. ' .. ' ' SHARP ADVANCE IN PRICES. Tho wool sale , , the-fourth held this season in Wellington,' was remarkable for tho sharp advance in tho prHs of moet wools) but particularly on medium and coarso crossbreds. . Tho catalogue woe larger than, was flret anticipated, and a considerable. cunnlity ol' woolarriv.d too lato to bo included in tho catalogue, and the broker,; have decided, to hold a supplementary Falo on Friday, March 20. Tho reports of tho celling brokers aro appended :— Dnlgoly and Co. , Messrs. Dalgcty and Company, Limited, Wellington, report «« follows :-The fourth local wool sale of the seaeon was held in the Town Hall yesterday, before a very large attendance of buyers, the number operating being quife as many a? in the previous sales, and Hie competition from Bradford and tho Continent, as well as from tlio local buyers wan excellent. The total quantity offcrins was 6600 ba'es, of which our total oil'orinc wa.s 2276 bales. Tho condition of the wool waa generally very heavy, and consisted mostly of back country lots showing a good quantity of seedy, and log-stained wool. Taking this into consideration, it may 'be said that thcro was an advance to-day ol pnr to id. on halfbred and fine crossbreds, id. to 3d. on medium and coaree crossbreds, id.' to jd. on pieces, and fully Jd. on lambs' wool. Owing to a good deal of wool arriving too late fpr this catalogue, It was decided yesterday to hold a ''supplementary" eale on March. 20, when the majority of Home buyers signified their intention of attending, and wo would therefore adviso clients who aro still holding any wool to get it in without any delay. Murray, Roberts and Co. Messrs. Murray, Roberts and Co., Ltd.. report, as follows:—For the fourth sale of fhis season we catalogued 1250 baled, being rather in excess of the usual March aifefing, owing to tho latenees of many wool clips in comiug to hand this season. The wools offered were, as ie usual- at this tfnlc, mostly of a. rough character, very few lots of dean, light-conditioned wool boing in evidence. On the whole, however, tho clips wcro fairly light in greaec, but carrying in meet '.cases a good deal of utuwai seed, few lots being quite free. The attendance of buyers was-good, "although naturally not quite so large as the early salea, those buyors who find no wools to interest them at the late sale having left. From the outset it was apparent, that wool was wanted, and the keenest competition was felt, each lot being eagerly competed for Bradford and Continental repreeeatativea being equally keen. The buying was well distributed, but. probably tho largost proportion of the catalogue wa6 secured for the Bradford market. Prices advanced a farthing per lb. for the finer crossbreds and halfbreue, while tho advance may bo estimated at a halfpenny to throe-farthing 3 on ordinary top-making crossbred wools. Lambs' wool and pieces also advanced to the extent of a farthing to a halfpenny above loot sale.
