LONDON PERSONALS. London, January 22. Miss Masoii, daughter of the late Mr. T. E. Masoii, of Wellington, is in London, and staying at the Hotel St. Petersburg, where she is giving a danco on February 10. Her sister, Miss Ethel Mason, has just arrived in England after spending some weeks in Colombo, and is staying at •Portinaii Square, Lou■don.

Tho Swinoy Prizo for Jurisprudence has been awarded to Mr. John W., Salmbild, K.C., Solicitor-General for New Zealand, for his work, "Jurisprudence." Tho prizo consists of a sum of £100, contained in" a cup of tho same value, and was founded'in 1844 under tho will of Dr. George Swiney, who left £5000 Three Per Cent. ■ Consols to tho Hoyal Society of Arts in order that tho prize might bo awarded on every fifth anniversary of his death, to tho author of the best published work on "Jurisprudence." An arrangement was made by the adjudicators that tho award should bo jnyen alternately for medical ,and general jurisprudence. . . • Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Laurence, of Wellington, arrived here in October, and have spout most of the intervening time in the North of England. Mr. Laurence intends , soon to visit Germany, and after that the United States. They will possibly bo away froni New Zealand lor another 18 months.

Mr. W. 'C. Tisc'h, of Ch'ristchurch and Wellington, left for Now Zealand last week, after spending three years in England studying eleotric traction work at King's College. . Mr. Arthur Myers and Mrs. Myers are at tho Grand Hotel, Eastbourne. ■
