Prize Money Reduced. Riflemen will regret to learri that the prize-.fliorie«r'has had toij)o-reduced, by nearly £30Us« tSp£a!u"ntf, iotfa <r4poniccon Saturday; .Colonel • Chief tive pfßcor, •; etated. that-' the prize-list•' was compiled in anticipation/of a large entry. He now. found .himself-!with a ' reduced entry, consequent on the strike, and although' the* number of Jriompetitors was larger than last, year, the number was not up to ihe original estimate, so the matter-of. finance- was-brought before the couiicil, when it was decided, with much regret, to reduce the prize list iii all competitions fired after one o'clock, on Saturday. ;' The ,A. -series, teams matches only brought out ten entries, the fees amounting to £15. The prizes offered amounted to'£sl, and-this sura was .'reduced to' £30, double the entry money) and, was divided into three prizes of £5, £3, ,and £2 in each match. In tho B series, service matches; there were 300 entries, at-12s. 6d. each, amounting, to. £187 105.,, and -the prizes offered amounted to £350. As ■> fivo matches had been disposed of, it was to reduce .tho prize list in the service, championship, by . £16 10s., thirty-three prizes of £1 each being reduced to 10s. each. For the championship series, nine matches,, 340 entries were received, the fees amounting to £790, and the prize list offered was £1173. As_ three matches had been'fired it was decided to reduce the prize list of the remaining matches by 20 per. cent., including the King's Prize. In the D series, tyros, there; were 70 entries, at 45., making £14, and the prizelist was £54 . ■ li> was decided to amend this list, by offering ten prizes in each match, one of £2, two of £1, two of 155.,, and live of -7e.' 6d., making a total of £7 7s. 6d. for each match, or £22 2s. 6d. for tho-three matches.; The aggregate will remain ;as it-was, namely, £6.' t Tho entries for the miniature and Morris Tube inatchos were disappointing, and it was, decided .to cancel the prize list, and.distribute prizes according tq tho amount of entrance fees.
Replying to a question, Colonel Collins said that all the association got from the Government was a grant •of £750,. and this, with the entranco fees, made the total receipts ,of the meeting; From this amount, in . addition to the prizes,'they had to pay for hire of furniture, wages of clerics, markers, and labourers, staff catering, printing, etc. The.v had reduced the prize list at a previous ineoting, but it: had been his aim at ali times to increase the money oflorcd. Ho had done.so during.several meetings, on one occasion Giving as much as £100 above the schedule. ■No one felt it more than ho did that tho P»'iz<) money had now to ho reduced.

' Marksmpn mid executive officers alike have been praising their efforts, and Colonel Collins paid them a special visit on Saturday to compliment them. Tho Colonel was accompanied-by Captain Mabin (camp quartermaster), and, addressing tha men, he said the as-sociation-was fortunate in securing- such a lot of experienced markers in placo of the R.N.SQ. men.'who were not available this year. "At the time I was doubtful of tlie. success of such a step," said the Colonel, "but now I am satisfied that tho markers employed are all that could bo-desired." Ho pointed out that a great deal depended on the marking, for it was ricccssary that the marksmen should: have, confidence in the mark-
