THE ANNUAL CONFERENCE. (By' Telofrapa—Press Association.;! Dunedin, February 26. The second annual conference of ministers and representatives of tho Methodist Churc'hof Now Zealand was opened last night in the presence of a large attendance of clergymen ta\& representative laymen. Tho Rev: Santucl' tawry, of Christchurch, presided, and delivered a _ retiring address, dealing principally with tho futuro policy of tho Church. Office-bearers were elected as follow: President,. Rev. S. J. Sefpell; «cc"greaident, Kpv. E. ltosevcar; secretary, Itev, C. H.Laws.: assistant-sccrD.tarie'S, IteyS, Sinclair and Drake; minute secretaries, Rev. A. B. Cliappell and Mr. F. Penn; Journal bccretarics, R.eys. F. T. Read and P. J. Cossiim; carrcsponding secretary, Rev. A. AsJ«R>ft; presenter, Rev. T. kl Joughin. The retiring president vacated . the chair which was taken by the Rev. Mr. Serpell. Mr. Scrpell said that' he felt very keenly the position which tfcoy had placed him in. That be had won the esteem of-the members of tho conference was proved by their rote: Ho 'would do his best to guard '.the trust reposed in him, and whatever of body, brain,' and heart lie had, would "be ch-eii to.the.Church. •
The Standing Committees will he elected to-morrow morning, and the conference will then .adjourn until 'Saturday to enabje the' various coamiiitees to discus's the work to! be' done.
