FOUR STEAMSHIP COMPANIES. •'_ An important amalgamation ; of. four steamship companies running .'in . the Australasian trades was agreed to re- ] cently. The companies are the lndra Line, Ltd., tho Star Line, Ltd., the Tyser Line, Ltd.,.and the. Anglo-Austra-lasian Steam Navigation Go., Ltd. 'It is considered that the companion, by transferring their steamers to, a nc'fl company, will bo: able to effect an economy in management and reduce iso risks of competition. Under the proposed schemo each company will hold tbo shares in the' now company representing tho steamers transferred. The Star Line (Messrs. J. P.' Qorry and Co., manager's), which owns five "steamers of 28,473 gross, has a paid-up capital of £292,250, of which £230,000 ■ is in ordinary shares. Tbo Corry family owns practically, tho /whole of .the ordinary shares and the majority, of the preference shares.. The' Anglo-Australasian Steam.Navigation Company ('Messrs'. W. Milburn and Co.) has a paid-up capital of £96,213," and owns, five steamers of. 2-1,143 tons gross, which stands in the books at a'valuo .of ' £244,570, Tho majority of the shares in this company are owned by the Milburn family. Tito, Tyser Line has a paid-un capital of £154,900, and its. fleet (consisting of eight, steamers' of 60,724 tons gross) stands in tho books at £613,935. Of tho shares in the company, Mr. G. W. Tyser owns £15,132, Mr. W. P. Tyser £6675. Mr. H. E. Tyser £14,254, Nelson Bros. Ltd., £16,500, and Messrs. Workman, Clark, and Co. £11,000. Tho lndra Lino (managed by: Mr. T. B, Royden, Liverpool) has a paid-up capital of £318,530, of which £314,710 is owned by the Royden family. This company owns il steamers', aggregating 66,184 tons gross.
