THE CARNIVAL.

\ A meeting of tho Side-Shows Committee of the Citizens' Carnival was held at tho Town Hall last evening. Mr. Geo,. Frost presided. I Messrs. Robbie and Wright were appointed to take chargo of the shooting gallery; Mr. Julius to take charge of tho guessing competitions; Miss Young to tako charge of tho fortune-telling tent; Messrs. Wright, Luckie, and Hislop to take chargo of the drop-kicking competition.-. Mr. Amos (secretary) reported that ho had received two telegrams from Mr. Trenerry, of Wonderland Park, Auckland, offering certain side-shows, and also offering 20 per cent, of the gross takings, with a minimum of £20. —Accepted. It was suggested that some of the members of the "Aladdin" Pantomime Company might be asked to assist with somo of the side-shows. The matter was left' in the hands of tho secretary (Mr. 'J. F. Atkins) to interview the manager of the company. SPORTS COMMITTEE. ' Mr. A. Marryatt presided at a meeting of the Sports Committee. It was reported that the Fire Brigade would give a display on Wednesday evening, and the Hutt Brigade will assist. ' The Cadet manoeuvres were fixed to tako place between 2 p.m. and 3 p.m., to be followed at 3.15 p.m. by the Amateur Athletic Provincial Championships. If- possible, the American athletes will tako part in the sprint events on Wednosday evening. A fancy-dress cricket match will be played on Thursday afternoon. Messrs. Hill and Keesing were appointed a subcommittee to wait on the •commander of H.M.S. Philomel to arrange for sports 'for tho men of tho ship on tho Thursday. ; Tho starters appointed to assist the .School Teachers' Committee in the ccn,'diict of the children's sports on. the Friday were Messrs. T.. W. Leslie and A. C. Kitto; judges, Messrs. E. A. 'Dawson, J. H.'Pollock, and Shallcross, :Rev. Father Hickson, Messrs. Jas. Doyle, D. Weir, and C. M. Peixotto. Mr. G. S. Hill reported that the Wimming gala in connection .with the .Carnival would probably bo held about the middle-of March. . The chairman mentioned that the aeroplane Which ; flow successfully at Wairarapa .would be exhibited at. the Park, and that later an arrangement might be made to have a flying exhibition at the Trentham racecourse.
