'A sitting of the' Conciliation Council was held to-day to hear a, dispute filed by tho Saddlers', Harnessj and Collarmakors', Union, It appears that tho awarxTgoverning the wages and working conditions of saddlers>was made some months ago, but the cover-makers were struck out of the Jist of employers .by tho Arbitration 'Court-. . The union pointed out that the cover-makers were included in all northern ' awards, and asked for a separate award , for them. The wages asked for were Is'. 3d. per, hour, with 48 hours a week, and other conditions similar to those granted under the saddlers' award. The employers objected to introducing tho cover-makers in ' tho saddlers' award, but after a discussion listing about an hour, th© Commissioner (Mr. Triggs) stated that he would recommend tlio union to ask tho Arbitration Court to include the covor-inakers in the award. alleged thief caucht. ■ Dargavllle, February 24. . uooi'ge John Burberry, a recent arrival from Home, was arrested at Aratapu yesterday 'charged with the theft Df a gold watch;and two chains, valuedat £16 155., from the Central Hotel, Dargaville, also a portmanteau, belonging to another boarder. The chains were sold, .with the portmanteau, to dif-. fcrent people, and tho watch was hidden on the railway line at-Kaihau, which place Burberry made for after the theft. He walked SO miles over the Rumfields to Aratapu, where Constable Montgomery arrested him. , Most of the property has been recovered. THE PEOPLE'S FISH. Chrlstohuroh, February 24.
