Tho secretary of .the association (Mr. G, A, Green) informed Mr, Ivirk thitt tho opinion of a well-toown patent firm had already been taken on the subject, and ho had advised them that, under the existing Patent Act's, that there was no-reason why new varieties of flowers aiid fruits should not bo registered in Australia and New Zealand. Mr. Kirk replied that he. was • not a lawyer, but lie did not think that they could, get tho protection .of existing. Patent Acts. Still, tiiero was nothing to prevent' tho society from framing a scheme whereby tho full descri:ptio.ii itiid particulars relating to Mow ' varureics could be scheduled under a Patent Act.
