■ A igood deal of misunderstanding prevails regarding an announcement made by,the Public Servipo'Commissioners on the" Eublic,'Servico r 'Escammatipn.'. That nnnounccmc-nt 1 lias been interpreted to mean that:girls are not:to be allowed to present thomselvos, at i . what was called.formerly the Junior' Civil Service 'Examination. 'A similar announcement was made regarding" the; examination last year, andj in some quarters, it was 60 interpreted.As the same rule is.to apply to tho. examination for 1914, the' chairman of the Education Board, when referring to the matter at the-meeting of 1 the board, yesterday,' stated that' lie wished to 'ma'so;it clear that itho rule had .not . tile effect of shutting out' girls from;the examination. All. .that tho Co'mmissioners'-meant to provide was that girls'should* be excluded from competition in that examination for admission to. the Public Service. . The examination was, however, used as a standard for purposes other than that of admission to tlie Civil Service,, and girls desiring to pass would bo allowed to eit. 'At the-.samo time, they niust understand/ that a; pass would hot entitle them to admission to the Public Service. I
