OBITUARY.
AMERICAN MILLIONAIRE. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyricht | Philadelphia, February 23. • ij. P Eels, the ni.iilionaire smgie-taxer and philanthropist, is dead. Mr Fels was born in 1851. He began business as a travelling salesman for toilet soap manufacturers, and later, with ins tather, engaged in soap manufacture, il i lrlnsr elusive brand. In 1001 the firm established a selling branch in England. In 1905 Mr. Fels became deeply interested in tho Single-tax propaganda, and gave large amounts of money and much time to the cause. 'He' founded the Joseph Fels fund of America, to which _he contributed -25,000 dollars annually for five years, and also founded similar funds in almost every city of the' globe. Mr. Fels purchased 1300 acres at Hallesley Bnv, England, to form a labour colony for unemployed, which was later taken over by the Government. He also purchased land at Maryland*, Essex, England, which was put under cultivation by. small holders. He was a frequent contributor to magazines. MEMBER OF STOCK EXCHANGE. . Sydney, February 24. Mr. Septimus Daly, aged 73 years, is dead. Ho was a member of t.lio Sydney Stock Exchange,- and resided in New Zealand in the early 'sixties.
