MASTERTON RAM FAIR.

.Wort; by selling brokers. , \ Tha Associated Selling Brokers, comprisfS Messrs. Dalgety and Co., Ltd., N.Z. Loan, and lle'rcantilo Agency Co., Ltd., ■W. and Q. Turnbull and Co., Ltd., Levin and Co., Ltd., and Abraham and Williams, ra., Toportas follows:—The annual ram jw. conducted, under the auspices of tho. WaSbqrtqn Agricultural and Pastoral ££sociation was held on the Show, ferounds, on Thursday and Friday, a ■ total .entry of 2791 being passed throuorh the ring. The-attendance was satisfactory, buyers from a distance" being prominent, .including representatives from Auckland and-the South Island. Tjie arrangements peculiar to Sol way. wliera tho whole of tho sheep are under cover in the-show , pens adjoining the'sale'ring, were favourably ' oominentcd on by the visitors, and worked splendidly, and the ram fair committee (Messrs. itobert Cooper and W. D. Watson) had their etaff well uj> to-the mark, and kept the sale "moving." All ■circumstances considered, a .very satis■factorysale has to bo reported, but, in .several instances on both' days, business ,at auction dragged. A fair proportion of the total entry comprised sheep of interior quality or. else out of condition, for-which thero was a poor demand, while, on the other hand, competition' for good 6hoep' was'animated, and the bidding at times particularly keen. It was • again demonstrated, however, that Slasterton, is no. place in which to dispose of seconit. quality sheep. ' Lincoln's, and' Southdowns woTO disposed of the first day, and, while' tho. inquiry for the former might'havebeen bettor, ■ good sheep sold well, and breeders appeared satisfied. As was. anticipated, Southdowns met a spirited market, and. a number of very good prices were realised. Towards tho end of the sale, however, buyers had filled their requirements, and a number of good sheep were turned out-unsold. Eoinrieys and ■all other breeds were disposed of on the second day, and Shropshire;; sold well, but no demand existed for English Leicesteri, while the.same remarks concerning Lincplns apply to I! omne.vs—plenty of competition for good sheep, but none, for inferior.
