SWIMMING.
THORNDON SWIMMING CLUB. A-very pleasant afternoon was spent atThorndon Baths on Saturday, when at "At Home" was held by the Thorndon Club. There was a splendid attendance of both sexes, and the gathering was much enjoyed. Two races were got off, the results being as follow:— Ladies Race, 50yds. handicap—Miss 0. M'Lcan (lOsec), 1; Miss D. . Bolton (scr.), 2; Miss M. Drmbury (15sec.), 3. Also started: Miss E. Shonrer, Mis 3 F. Outram, Miss B. Halley, Miss B. Gibbs, and Mrs. HallidajV Time, 4Gsec. Miss Bolton swam a good race from scratch, but' failed to catch Miss M'Lean, who won by two yards. Relay Race, handicap,! four men in each team; each man to ewim 50 yards —C. Sheehy, J. Wnreham, R. W. King, H. W. Harris (16sec), 1; R. Evans, D. J. Dndson, J. Shearer, C. Higgie (scr.), 2. Also started: T. H. M'Loan, F. R. Webster, J. Thomas, T. H. King (23 sec); W. O'Meara, L. M'Caskoy, V. Tipene, A. Ishorwood (12scc.)i { W. Lomas, L. Higgie, D. Higgie, A. W. Sinp (13sec). A fine finish, the scratch team losing by a very small margin. . . Tlio club supplied afternoon tea. On Tuesday a handicap race, 100 yards, will be decided.
