Gisborne wharves, was welcomed! to-day with great pomp and ceremony. At present.the inner hnrbour contains three of the largest ships ever accommodated—HiM.S. Philomel (2575 tons), Kaitangnta (1981 tons), Taka.puna tons), iu addition to the Hippie, Kiritona, and other regular traders to the i.ort. The Philomel - and Kaitangata each draw 17 feet, and were berthed without difficulty, a striking contrast to the position here a few years ago, when ordinary rowing boats wero occasionally stranded in the river.
