Senator Chamberlain declared that the Canadian railroads were responsible for tho agitation against tho tolls. Senator Bristow alleged • that the. President was acting under tho railroad companies' influence. ' Other Senators repudiated this suggestion. • Senator Borah declared that Sir Edward Grey's note objecting to tho rail* way ownership clause meant that Britain, wanted also repeal of the clause against tho railroads. President Wilson is still continuing his conference with prominent men of the Democratic Party. Ho wislws it clearly understood that tho United States' honour is involved, and holds that Rood faith is necessary in all treaty obligations. ATTACK ON PRESIDENT WILSON. 'i (Rec. During the Panama telb debate Mr. Bristol accused President Wilson of inconsistency in telling tho Suffragists that he was unable to agree te the Suffrage Bill as the Democrats had not jpcluded it in their platform, whfjo simultaneously requesting Congress to reserve to itself the Tolls question, despite tho fact that tho Democratic party had endorsed it. Sir. Lodge denied the accusation against the President, stating that Dr. Wilson was actuated by a desire to restore tho United States to ita former prestige.
