MEETINGKOF CITY COUNCIL,

.I.lms Wellington Citv Council met last night. The Mayor (Mr. J. .I'. Luke) presided, and there.were present; also, Councillors R. Fletcher, 3. E. Fitzger-. aid, A.,H. Hindmarsh, T. C. A. Hislop. 11, A. Wright, M. IK Luckie, E. Rear, J. Fuller, juur.,- L, M'Kenzie, W. J. Thompson, H. Buddie. J. Godbcr. G. I'rost, and W r . H. P. Barber. The City Engineer was instrsictcd to put m hand the widening of the approach to Northland Road from'Karon Road; various sundry requests of tho Northland Electors' Association will ha considered during the framing of tho estimates for next year. The Outlying Districts Committee reported thr,t they had considered the question of the- survey of Vogeltown, and had to recommend that a tribunal consisting of a representative of the Lands Department, a representative of the City Corporation, and a representative of the property-owners of the district should be set up to thoroughlv investigate the position.' The reportwas adopted. The City Solicitor advised that a firm who claimed that they could pool the lighting accounts of their various premises in order to obtain a higher rate of discount Were not entitled to do so. The coniuvitteo. had therefore instructed the officers to insist upon payment of the accounts as rendered. It was reported that the Kilbirnie Batcpayrsrs 1 Association had written, expressing the association's' high appreciation of the amount'of work done to the Kilbirnie Reserve, and the excellent manner in which the same has been carried ottt. The By-Laws Committee . reported that attention had been drawn to certain statements made by the Inspector to the Society for the 'Prevention of Cruelty to Animals with respect to the method adopted by the council regarding' stray dogs. It was pointed out that the council's powers ra the matter were limited to the provisions of the Do£ Registration Act.
