The volcano, which, when in eruption i recently, did' enormous damago on the I island of Ambrym, in, the ..N'ew Hobrides, among other things destroying-the up-to-date hospital there, and. causing tho deaths of many of tho natives, is, according to tlioso who arrived in Sydney last week by this steamer Pacifiqno, still active. While'the Pacifi qua was at Apia and cruising in tho Islands, a series of further eruptions were reported. Happily, however, no further 1033 of life 'has occurred. A deputation from the Napier High School Governors urged on Hon. J. Allen tho necessity for building a new sehool with more accoinmoAition for recreation purposes. Mr. Brown, M.P., urged the Minister to promise a vote of £20,000 or. £25,000.. Replying, tho Minister said the governors should. first obtain a , site, _ and „ the Government, would then be.prepafed to consider the matter of., a..new school.—(Presis' Association.).
