MOTHERS' UNION.

WOMAN'S PLACE IN THE WORLD. (By Telejrapb.—P/031 Association,) Chrlstoliuroh, February 18. . The annual festival of tho "Mothers' Union!' was celebrated to-day. The service, which was very largely attended, was held in the Cathedral this morning, when the sermon was preached by Bishop Julius. The Bishop said that it was easy to understand the gravity of the problem before women. Many there were who wero in doubt regarding the movements of.to-day, and many were ready to condemn the new movement. Maiiy thought that the proper place for women was.in tho home, alono and did not believe in change. Others realised the., perplexities and difficulties. of the movement, and therefore condemned it. .Those who heard only of the mad doings of- militant Suft'raget'tes doubted that the movement was a good one. There were those who said that woman should have the same rights as man, and that it,was all talk of submission and 'obedience to men. Others again said that. this was utterly wrong, and that equality was not to be talked of. There wore masculine women, and effeminate men, and there were women trying ,to push themselves into ' positions they could never occupy with' profit to themselves or to others. , jl'he Biblo-in-schools question wru= one jn which mothers and women generally in New Zealand could help greatly. If they i (realised, that religious teaching was tho basis of all that was pure and unselfish in life, they would nave tho Bible in the schools at once. There should be no talk of equality in all things , between men. and . women. God had made a very real distinction, and the proper development of human life lay in the co-operation of the one with the other. .;
