Joseph Henry Belbin was found guilty and sentenced to death for the murder of tho girl LcdweH at Dcloraino in October last. Tho jury TEconimcnded him for mercy on account of his youth. The-" girl, Margaret Kathleen Ledwell, «ged 16J years, • was tho daughter of a farmer on the Chcshijnt Estate* iiaar Deloraific. She left her home ono afternoon to jeiu her parents, who were visiting a neighbouring settleF. She was waylnid at a lonely spot in the- Springdnle Road, and molested. The murderer, frustrateil in his attack, then, shot her dead. Th<? body was found in a depression a littlfl distance off the track. Belbin, aged 10 yearSi was employed as a farm hand.
