The- late clerk explained that this probably ap> plied to a sum of money lodged in error by tho lending Department to the board's general account, instead of the special account as directed. The moneys were withdrawn by cheques on the special account, which the-bank honoured out of tho general account. On the same commissioner's motion it was decided to supply the' Upper Hutt State Schosl with a free water service from the Brown Street service pipe. Both the aforementioned services to he "during the pleasure of tho Town Board." The freo service to the orphanage was euggested by the mover as the Sisters of Mercy were paying water loan rate, and would be paying half water rat-e on the balance of. their property at t/pper Hutt in excess of the four.aeres exempt from rates under the Rating Act, 1908. Commissioner M'Curdy's motion that applications be invited for tho position of overseer at £i applicant to bo qualified to carry out concrete and reinforced concrete work, and discharge the duties of. water inspector and buikling and nuisance inspestoi , ; and .other duties such as are' performed by the works overseers at Woo:lrille, Martinborough,"Teatherstan, and Levin, lapsed for want of a seconder, whereupon .the mover revived the report of a speejal committee which had been "received," and moved that applications bo invited for tho position of water inspector, as indicated in that report.—Motion agreed to. ; In cquiiepfion..jvitli' ( the, official opening of We'SvatorwoVks bftho Hon.
