MEETING OF SPORTS COM, MI'fMS.A meeting of tho Sports- Committee of tho coming Citizens' Carnival was held last night. Mh J. H. Pollock presided. • ■ Tho offer of tlie proprietors of tlie skating rink in Vivian ritreottohelcl ,ii carnival oiv some night to he arranged, taking a portion of tho pweeeds, provided tho committee voted £6 as prize money; was referred ta the executive with a recommendation that it be ac* cepted. Mr. J. Doyle reported tin a consultation with Major iluine regarding tug-of-war. They had thought it would he advisable to have a tourney for scratch teams, selected oh no particular basis, the matches to bo pulled by the teams standing, without battens. It would'be necessary to offer the.teams prizes amounting to, say, £12. Ho estimated that thoy would have at least six teams entered.- On tho motion of Mr. M. Luckio it was decided to reccmmend the executive to set aside a eura of £12 for a on the lines mentioned by.Mr. Doylf, and. that in tho oyont of the pxectiiire agreeing to tho .proposal Mr. J. Doyle a»d Major Humo be a. committee to draw up tho. conditions of tho eojifest. It was resolved to recommend to the executive to add to 'tile programme of events a maypole dance on oßts or more of tho days of the carnival. There was difference of opinion as to the wisdom of a suggestion, that a" military cadet display be held immediately before.or during an interval in the athletic championship meeting on Saturday, March 7. • The chairman, Mr. Pollock, was ompowercd to confer with Mr. R. \V. M'Villy, president of the Wellington Centre of tho N.Z.A.A.A. on tho matter. On the motion of. Mr. Guise it Was agreed to recommend the executive to provirlo for a few sprint athletic events on Wednesday evening, at which the American athletes might bo present. Mr. A. Marrya.tt and;. Mr.' H.. Atnes were appointed directors of Sports to fix times for tho events on the sports programme. • Following is the' draft programme to .bo- submitted to-.this meeting of the executive to-jiight—* : March' 4.— Afterimon: Floral foto, fancy- dross competition. Military items—Semaphore signalling, bugle competition, and -massed dfspJay ■ physical drill; Highland dancing; ftiney dress ■ cricket match. ' Evening: Sham ■ fight, bluejacket competitions, fire bri» gado competition, carnival dance on oval, 9.30; sprint athletic events. - • Thursday, March s.—Afternoon: Motor-car driving competition, motorcycle tortoise race, man of warstiien's competitions, tug-of-war. Evening: Highland dancing, gymnastic displays, Jiu-jitsu exhibitions. Friday. March 6.—Afternoon:.Schools , competition, athletic events. Evening: boxing tournament. Town Hnil. Sntiirdnv.-.'Marcli 7.—Afternoon: frovincial athletic championships, .military tournament. Evening: Slum fight, mail of warsmen, carnival danco.
