MORE YOUNG SHOTS.
Tho Mecca for riflemen in New Zealand is.Trcntham, and tho championship meeting this year, which opens on Thursday, Fobruary-26 ; promises to be a very successful carnival. Many new doparturcs in rifle shooting will be tried out. To date, over 300 entries have been received, and it is anticipated that nearly 400 meu will solid, in their names before the date of the meeting. Many names aro comin'g in daily, and there- is no doubt that last year's total entries. 350, will bo reached. Clubs from all parts of New Zealand' will be represented, including Karori (18' entries), Opaki, Masterton (20). Suburbs (17),- Petono (8), Okawa (10), Akarana (15), Sounds (8), Christehurch (8). Eltham, Now Plymouth, Gisborne, To Awamutu,;Aucklaud City, Taradalo, and Rangitikei will also bo represented. _ . ■, ' The present champion, 1 ,, . H. James, Okawa: (Hastings) Rifle Club, will be amongst the competitors, and ex-cham-pions shooting will be G. Hyde. (Opaki Rifle Club), R. J; King (Opaki), Private L. Loveday (9th Regiment), D. Roots I (Kaponga), Lieut. W. Duncan ( j<l Morton I Rifles)/ W. J. Milroy (Nelson), and Scrgt; J. W: Cliing (Waimea Rifles). Other .noted shots will be Masefield (Sounds), Carlson, Patrick, and Cox (Auckland), Morenzi (Eketahuna), R. M. Harding (Blenheim), J. Anstico (Nelson), Needham (Linten), AVood and,Sanford, (Christehurch). New Features.. New features will'be included.this year, notably a. miniature championship. Tho miniature Tange has been completed, and the shooting will commenco'on the Saturday a'fter the mooting opens. Three miniature matches will be nred, and it is expected that many of ■, the miniature shots from Wellington will go out. Entries -will be taken at tho post'. : For, the first time in tho history cf tho meeting civilian markers will be employed. This course has been rendered ■necessary, owing to tho Permanent Staff men being unavailable. Some 50 markers will bo required, but no difficulty is anticipated in'securing the men. Tho Dominion Executive will have to pay them' 13s. a day, so that an increased: cost of something like £250 will have to bo met. . , . ■ A pleasing feature in connection with the meeting is the fact that more tyros will attend. This may bo due to the inclusion of three matches in J D. Sejies for young''shots.! - The programme for the first three days is as-followa:-^ .
