RETURN FOR JANUARY.. The following is the return for January of the Municipal Electric Light Department, compared, with ,the figures for the corresponding month of last year, the latter in parentheses:—Rcvenuo, £3742 (£3709), uicrcaso £33; working expenses, £2721 (£1086), increase £735; capital charges, £1461 (£1461); credit balance, nil (£262); debit balance, £440 (nil); units sold, 187,469 (173,871), increase. 13,508; new connections made, 45 (95), decrease 50. The figures for tho ten months' period of the financial year (to January 31) are as follow:— Revenue, £53,609 (£50,376), increase £3233; working expenses, £23,496 (£23,262), increase £234; capitai charges, £14,611 (£14,611); credit balance, i£ls,502 (£12,503), increase £2999; units sold, 2,588,154 ((2,307,653), increase 280,501; new • connections made, 1055 (1218);.:decreaso 163; total connections at January 31, 8889 (7717), incroase 1172.
