THE VEILED PLAGUE.
COMBATING THE SCOURGE
(By Tclos'ranh.-Spcckl Correspondent.) Auckland, February 13. In dealing with the report en venereal fliseaso brought up at the Medical Congress yesterday, the "Herald" says:— "The question is of such profound public importance, and the health and happiness of so' many, innocent victims is involved,' that wo must call public at tention to, and ask public support for, the report and recommendation of the committee. It is probably correct to saythat no other class of disease so detrimentally or so permanently affects the, national health, or so taxes, in its infinite ramifications, the resources of medical science.. Yet it is ■unquestionable that these diseases could ;be practically eradicated if dealt with as systematically and fearlessly as society deals with far less dangerous and repellent maladies. The very moderate suggestions of the congress may well be,regarded as initiating a sorely-needed medical campaign for the protection of tho innocent.public from the worst of. physical ills, and as this we trust they will be accepted by the authorities."
