"HONOUR TO WHOM?"
M; A. NOBLE ON FRANK L.AVEE: Of toil described as the finest allround cricketer in the World, Mr. M. A. Noble displays rio mean ability as a public speaker. .'.. He lia-s not tho rhetoric of the orator, but he. strikes one as being a- particularly neat "afterdinner speaker.?' Iu a delightful little.speech at. tho Town Hall on Friday during the civic 'welcoriie to the Australian cricketers, Mr. Jfoble said a few very nice words in reference to another well-known ■ cricketer. In his speech of welcome, the Mayor had made some coinplim-PHvrify allusion to Mr. ¥'. LaVer, the manager of the team, and when Mr. Noble spoke he expressed himself »s being very 'grateful to His Worship for these particular remarks. Mr. Noble paid a high tribute io Mr. Laver as a man and as a cricketer, and remarked that while Mr. Layer was honoured, in his own country, he. was not sufficiently honoured by the people from whom he most deserved admiration. He was, of course, honoured and deeply respected by those With whom he had played the game for maiiyyears, and by his near friends. "Wo feel gratified," continued Mr. Noble, "that yon, in your Welcome to-day, thought fit to give a little mead of. praise to a man who fhoroughly deserves it, and hfts given some of the b?st yea.r.s of his life for the sdvaneem'snt of the game ho loves."
