PETONE BAND CARNIVAL.

There was a capital' attendance for the opening of the Petene Band Carnival last evening, including visitors from Wellington and Lower Butt.' The dancing of the little girls was charming. A genuine telegraph office whence real wires might be sent did good business. . A large array, of ladies with pencils and note-books assailed, the'unwary young man for sales, and an efficient orchestra, under Mr. Ninness, supplied the music. Mr. T, M. Wilford, M.P., in declaring the earnivalopen, spoke of the Petone Band's need of assistance, Ho also referred to the good work.of Professor Gardston in the'training of such a band of performers. The Mayor (Mr. J. W. M'Ewan).also spoke. Several numbers of what was billed as "The Dancing Tour of. the World" were presented .durjng the : these, including "Ye Olde English Giivotte," "Japanese !'Bi]likins,". and. ''Summer, Autumn, and.Winter Ballets," in;"which, the part of tho. fairy queen, was sustained'by Miss.'C'ardston, and that of "Mephisto'"' by Professor '-Cards-ton. A liovej feature was the publication of an evening journal, entitled "The Peton© Band Blast," which records the doings of the bazaar.
