During the discussion the Mayor rnado it very plain that he favoured the idea that such clubs should be relieved of rates as they were providing recreation grounds and open, pjacea of benefit to residents and tlie borough. It was also decided to call the attention of owners of.properties with trees overhanging the footpaths, with a view to naving the nuisance abated. Councillor Foley raised the very important ' (juestion ■' of affording protection from destruction by fire to the native bush in the Eastbourne Domain (an area of 551 acres) by means of clearings. Tho'matter was referred to the Reserves Committee. •Attention 'was drawn to the growing prevalence iirtlio borough of inilightod carts and bicycles after dark. Drastic stops were advooated to check the dangerous practice. '
